At the Loves Landing Fly In Community (97FL) in north central Florida, one aircraft hangar stands out for more than its functionality. Featuring a 48′ x 12′ PowerLift Hydraulic Door, this hangar combines innovative design with stunning aviation artwork, creating a space that celebrates both the love of flying and the stories behind it.

For homeowners John and Patti Stahr, the hangar is much more than a place to store an airplane. They affectionately call it “the studio” because it serves as John’s creative workspace, where aviation art comes to life. As the artist behind Artistic Aviation, a division of Stahr Design Inc., John has spent decades creating custom artwork and paint schemes for aircraft and other large vehicles. His passion for aviation and art is reflected in every detail of this remarkable project.

The mural across the hangar door begins with a breathtaking sunset that John photographed from the exact location where the hangar now stands. From there, the artwork unfolds into a montage of meaningful aviation memories and achievements.

One of the most touching features is the portrait of Patti’s father, a P-38 pilot who completed 50 missions in the European Theater during World War II. The portrait is paired with a P-38 Lightning, honoring his service and preserving his legacy for future generations.

The mural also features a silver RV-8 painted to resemble a classic P-51 Mustang, representing one of John’s longtime clients. Another highlight is the dramatic underside view of John’s own RV-8, allowing viewers to appreciate the detailed “American Angel” artwork that is normally only visible when looking up from beneath the aircraft.
